Stampin' Up! Snowflake Wishes Emboss Resist Christmas Card

Snow is one of nature's most magical elements -- it brings a sense of peace and calm. This card is made from the Stampin' Up! Snowflake Wishes Stamp Set and features the emboss resist technique. I have submitted this card to The Spot Creative Challenge #136

CARD RECIPE

Ingredients

  • Stamp Set(s): Snowflake Wishes

  • Cardstock: Whisper White, Misty Moonlight

  • Ink Pads: Misty Moonlight, VersaMark

  • Embossing Powder: Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder

  • Embellishments/Ribbon: Metallic Mesh Ribbon, Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems

  • Adhesives: Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Foam Adhesive Sheets, Glue Dots

  • Coloring Tools: Stamping Sponges

  • Other: Paper towel

TIP: when popping up an entire layer of cardstock, using foam sheets (either in one piece or cut into sections) significantly reduces the amount of Stampin' Dimensionals needed to cover the cardstock and, most importantly, it ensures the center of the cardstock doesn't sag.

Tools

  • Basic Supply Kit: paper trimmer, paper snips/scissors, bone folder

  • Heat Tool

  • Stamparatus Foam Mat (optional)

  • Take Your Pick (optional)

TIP: to get a perfect stamped impression every time when using Photopolymer (i.e. clear, transparent) stamps, place the stamp on a foam surface rather than a hard surface. For example, you can use the Stamparatus, the Stamparatus® Foam Mat, or the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Place your cardstock on top of the foam surface and the resulting image is very crisp and clear.

Technique(s)

  • Ink Blending

  • Heat Embossing

  • Emboss Resist

Emboss Resist Technique: this is a simple technique that involves heat embossing (and who doesn’t love heat embossing?). Stamp your image with VersaMark, sprinkle with white or clear embossing powder, melt the powder with your heat tool, let cool, then create your own background with the ink blending technique. When you have the background just the way you want it, take a a clean paper towel, wipe the ink off the embossed image areas and watch the amazing reveal – the embossed image resists the ink, revealing a white image.

Cardstock Measurements

  • Card Base: Misty Moonlight 4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/5"

  • Mat Layer #1: Whisper White measuring 5 1/4" x 4"

  • Whisper White Layer #2: Whisper White measuring 4 7/8" x 3 5/8"

  • Inside Layer #3: Whisper White measuring 5 1/4" x 4"

Instructions for Assembly

  1. Prepare Your Cardstock: cut/trim/score all cardstock and/or DSP as described above

  2. Stamp the larger of the two clusters of snowflakes from the Snowflake Wishes Stamp Set with VersaMark ink on Layer #3 (Whisper White). Rotate your stamp position as you make a border around the cardstock.

  3. Stamp your sentiment in the middle of your card (centered vertically and horizontally)

  4. Cover the inked stamped images in Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder. Melt the embossing powder with the heat tool then let the embossing cool (doesn't take long).

  5. Using a sponge, or the ink blending tool of your choice, blend Misty Moonlight ink on the paper, shading as desired. When done, use a clean paper towel to wipe the ink off the embossed areas.

  6. Cover the back of your embossed & blended layer (#2) with a foam adhesive sheet or three strips of a foam adhesive sheet

  7. Adhere Mat Layer 1 to the card base using glue, or the adhesive of your choice (i.e. Seal, Seal+, liquid glue).

  8. Adhere layer #2 to Mat Layer #1

  9. Tie the Metallic Mesh Ribbon in a bow and attach to Layer #2

  10. Adhere Layer #3 to the inside of your card base; decorate with several stamped snowflakes as/if desired
