Stampin' Up! Quiet Meadow Dies Get Well Card for the Crafty Collaborations Share it Sunday Blog Hop

The Crafty Collaborations Team

The Crafty Collaborations team is comprised of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world. Each month, we participate in several collaborative projects including blog hops like this one, to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our goal is to create, share and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.

Today's Hop: Share it Sunday

Today is Share it Sunday for the Crafty Collaborations Team. You will see a multitude of projects (this hop has a lot of participants) that will give you a lot of new crafting inspiration.

For my Share it Sunday project, I chose to use the the Stampin' Up! Meadow Dies from the Quiet Contour Bundle with a sentiment from the Blossoms in Bloom Stamp Set. My card features two techniques -- ink blending with a stencil (mask) and creating a watercolor wash.

Card Tutorial

Ingredients

  • Stamp Set: Blossoms in Bloom (for sentiment)

  • Dies: Meadow Dies

  • Ink Pads: Polished Pink, Fresh Freesia, Basic Gray, Misty Moonlight

  • Cardstock: Basic White, Fresh Freesia

  • Ribbon & Trim: Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon

  • Embellishments: 2021-2023 In Color Jewels

  • Coloring Tools: Water Painters, Blending Brushes, Basic Pattern Decorative Masks (aka Stencils)

  • Adhesives: Stampin' Seal, Stampin' Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots, Multipurpose Liquid Glue and/or spray adhesive (such as Pixie Spray by iCraft or Elmer's Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive), low-tack tape (such as Spellbinders - Best Ever Craft Tape (available from Scrapbook.com))

  • Other: Teflon Sheet or other surface covering to prevent staining and getting your desk wet when watercoloring, magnetic surface to keep your cardstock and stencil (mask) in place when blending ink; a magnetic platform to hold cardstock and stencils (masks) in place (such as the Tonic Studios - Magnetic Crafter's Platform or the Ranger Ink - Wendy Vecchi - Make Art - Stay-tion)

*the non-Stampin' Up! products mentioned are my personal preference and are not endorsed by Stampin' Up!; I do not receive commissions or affiliate payments for mentioning these products

TIP: a multi-purpose spray is a great way to adhere any type of intricate and delicate die cuts to avoid using a liquid glue that tends to flood out from underneath the cut cardstock and onto the cardstock; spray lightly to the back of the die cut pieces, press onto your cardstock, and cover with a large acrylic block for a few seconds to bond the die cut and cardstock together

Tools

  • Basic Supply Kit: paper trimmer, paper snips/scissors, bone folder, acrylic stamping blocks

  • Heat Tool

  • Blending Brushes

  • Basic Patterns Decorative Masks (aka Stencils) (listed above in Ingredients section)

  • Stampin' Up! Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (SUCE*)

  • Optional: Take Your Pick (the putty end makes picking up and adhering gems super easy!)

  • Optional: Stampin' Up! Grid Paper, low tack tape for holding dies in place when running them through the SUCE, such as washi tape, painter's tape, or, my absolute favorite, "Spellbinders - Best Ever Craft Tape" (yes, that is what it is named; it can be found from various online shops)

*SUCE (noun, homophone) / soo-kee): the abbreviated, short-hand name for the Stampin' Up! Cut and Emboss machine. The term SUCE was invented by Barry and Jay of Mitosu Crafts (check out their amazing YouTube videos); the term SUCE was inspired by their cat named Sukie (also pronounced soo-kee, thus creating the homophone) =)

Technique(s)

  • Watercolor

  • Ink Blending

  • Creating with Stencils (Masks)

Cardstock Measurements

  • Card Base: Fresh Freesia measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"

  • Layer #1: Fresh Freesia measuring 5 1/4" x 4"

  • Layer #3: Basic White measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" (will be trimmed down to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" in the step-by-step instructions below)

  • Layer #4 - Inside: Basic White measuring 5 1/4" x 4"

  • Stamping & Die Cutting: Basic White measuring 5 1/2" x 3" for die cut floral stems and 1 1/4" x 3" for sentiment

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Cardstock: cut/trim/score all paper as described above

  2. On Layer #2 (Basic White measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"), use a stencil (mask) and a blending brush to apply Basic Gray ink to the cardstock. Apply the ink in various areas of the stencil and cardstock, applying as much or as little ink as desired. TIP: to keep your paper and stencil in place, use a low-tack tape on your crafting surface or use a magnetic platform (options for both the tape and magnetic surface are mentioned in the Tools section above; sample positioning surfaces shown in the images below)

  3. Trim the ink-blended cardstock down to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2"

  4. Die cut two floral stems from the Meadow Dies from Basic White cardstock measuring appropximately 5 1/2" x 3" (as mentioned in the Cardstock & Measurements - Stamping & Die Cutting section above)

  5. Die cut the sentiment frame from Basic White cardstock measuring approximately 1 1/4" x 3" (as mentioned in the Cardstock & Measurements - Stamping & Die Cutting section above)

  6. Stamp your sentiment in Polished Pink ink on the die cut label cardstock

  7. Give your closed Polished Pink and Misty Moonlight ink pads a firm squeeze -- this will cover the lid of the ink pads in ink (see image below in the Watercolor Wash section)

  8. Use the water painters to add water to the ink to create the watercolor ink (see image below in the Watercolor Wash section)

  9. Apply the watercolor ink to your die cut floral stems in a blotting manner; add the watercolor ink to the areas of the floral stems as desired. Note: covering areas in both colors will create a pale purple color.

  10. Dry the floral stems by setting them aside for a while or, to speed up the process, use the heat tool to speed up the drying process

  11. Adhere Layer #1 Fresh Freesia to the front of the cardbase

  12. Adhere Layer #2 (ink blended cardstock) on top of Layer #1

  13. Arrange and adhere the dried floral stems to the front of the card (use liquid glue or a spray adhesive [mentioned above])

  14. Tie a double bow with the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon (or, tie two bows and adhere them together with a Mini Glue Dot, like I did).

  15. Adhere the bow to the bottom half of the floral stems, with a Mini Glue Dot

  16. Adhre the sentiment to the front of the card with Stampin' Dimensionals

  17. Adorn the front of the card with 2021-2023 In Color Jewels

  18. Stamp the bundle of flowers from the Quiet Contour stamp set, in Fresh Freesia ink, on Layer #4 - Inside sheet of Basic White

  19. Adhere Layer #4 - Inside sheet of Basic White cardstock to the inside of the card with the adhesive of your choice

Surface Options for Ink Blending on Stencils (Masks)

Use a Stampin' Up! Grid Sheet with a low-tack tape or a magnetic surface, both pictured below.

Watercolor Wash

This image below shows how I created the watercolor ink using the ink pads, waterpen, and a Teflon protective surface.

The project is complete! =)
